I'm at the dealership for my first oil change and the guy told me about this.

Did 1st oil change today also, and was told at dealership of recall but no fix because parts aren't available. Guess doing any towing is out of the question until fix is done.

Got my letter in the mail this week, says fix is currently unavailable. Ive carried a bike rack in mine once or twice with no issues, guess ill be holding off until this is resolved.

I think its odd that from the way it seems, the hardware is the failure point. If the hitch can just loosen on its own and fall off, then the mount appears to be the issue to me. Anyone had one apart to look at how it mounts?

It's more an issue that they didn't use all 6 bolts for mounting as opposed to any other issue. I installed the factory kit on my TH. (yes it was a fortune) and taking off the original TH bumper, they had only attached that with 2 of the available 6 bolts. When I attached the hitch bumper, there was a total of 6 that I was able to attach.

So I'm not worried about mine - but I would be if I had a factory-installed that was only connected by 2 bolts

The mount is in a trianglular shape, the right side of the right mount, and left side of the left mount have nuts, the inner 2 studs have nothing. Missing 4 of 6 nuts isn't great, but you may be able to reach them with some flexibility if you don't want to wait for the dealers to have the 'needed parts'

Thanks for the insight fellas, so the bigger question for me is why the letter I got states that "a fix is currently being looked at, but not currently available." If its just throwing 4 bolts into it then why cant I take it to the dealership and have it fixed?

No. They said I'd be getting something in the mail once FCA came up with a fix and then I'd be able to schedule service.

Funny didn't notice a clunk until I was told about recall now can definitely hear it. Wonder How long we have to wait, starting to camper shop and would like to get something to pull which is out of the question till recall is completed and hitch cleared to be used.

Here's an interesting one. Turns out we bought our new TH the day the dealer received the recall notice. It's against the law for the dealer to sell a car with an open recall. So we got a call today (after a month of ownership) telling us that we have to turn the vehicle in - as if the sale never happened. Not clear what the final remedy will be at this point. Stay tuned.

i'd also say no way jose! How can they even do that and not hose you? you've already taken the hit on devaluation, made a payment, and you credit score -if financed- also took a hit. I am sure the insurance is going to be a circus show. All of this during YOUR free time. I mean your time is definitely worth something. Sounds like a losing proposition to return it... unless they offer you 20grand off the price of a Rubicon or TH Renegade.

Dropped into dealer today, checked on hitch recall. customer rep said he'd order us a part, must have fix figured out, dealer just didn't have it in stock. We'll see how long it takes to come in and get us taken care of, will keep y'all up on progress.

Update had appt yesterday for fix on hitch, took around 3 hours, but then again had to have 2 flashes done also. So probably not all of the time was the hitch. So far no clunk sounds, fingers crossed. Flashes were for instrument panel and anti lock brakes. Oh got our notice in mail same day as fix lol.
