As I'm sure most of you have noticed, there really isn't a whole lot of good places to mount a CB radio in Jeep Renegade or at least, not safely or even tastefully. And while I'm still kicking around a few ideas about installing something a bit more permanent, I decided to pick up an ultra compact Midland 75-822 40 Channel CB-Way Radio and give it a try. I figured, if nothing else, I could use it as a spare or as a good hand held unit while spotting on the trail but much to my surprise, I actually like it a lot just as a primary CB. In addition to it coming with a small flexible antenna for hand held use, it also comes with a removable rechargeable battery pack and a separate pack that allows you to use standard AA batteries but what makes it really cool is that it comes with a car accessories plug adapter too. And, what really separates it from a lot of other hand held CB's I've had in the past is that on this car adapter is a pigtail that allows you to hook up a standard CB coax antenna cable up to it! Anyway, here are a few pics of it and the Wilson 305-38 300-Watt Little Wil magnetic antenna mount that I got with it. Check it out

This is what the Midland 75-822 looks like plugged into the accessory power jack and with the small flexible antenna installed.

Here a closer shot of what the accessories power jack looks like plugged in and next to the CB coax antenna pigtail extending from the CB adapter.

Last but not least, here's a shot of the Wilson Little Wil magnetic antenna placed on the roof of our Renegade. For now, I just ran the coax cable into the cab through the rear hatch.

For those of you looking for a good CB solution for your Renegade, I hope this post helps to give you some ideas

Don't forget to check your swr's.

I have a big radio I used in my semi, not sure the little alternator can push it, plus I don't know where I would put everything lol

This is correct! I have an SWR meter and the Wilson antenna can be tuned. Not all magnetic antennas can.

Did you run the wires inside the car under any of the plastic trim ? Or just kind of tucked it out of sight as much as possible. I got the radio yesterday and its a nice little CB for the money. Only down side is I live in the hudson valley ny so its very hilly around here so I wasnt getting good reception. But The wilson antenna will be coming today

For now, I just tuck the cable out of the way as I don't always leave the CB hooked up and the antenna on for daily driving.

Ok so just got the antenna and installed it and it works great....My only question is when you ran the cable down the hatch did you just lay the cable over the weather stripping ? Do you think it will still keep the hatch water proof

Yes, I did run it over the weather stripping and so far, I haven't seen any ill effects from it.

I made a custom CB mount that slips over the lip of the glove box and is held in place with a simple strip of velcro. I will post a picture tomorrow.

Wayoflife I have the same antenna, did you have to adjust yours? I havent checked my svr yet...

Can't wait to see what you did.

Regarding the antenna, yes, I did end up making a slight adjustment based on my SWR meter.

Ok here is my CB mount solution. I had an old Uniden CB laying in the garage that I decided to use. I bought some .032" 5052 aluminum plate off McMaster and made a template. 5052 is easy to bend and easy to cut. I used a band saw and just deburred the edges a bit. The mount hangs over the lip of the glove box and is held in place with some velcro. Its easily removed when not needed.

I edited my post, I guess you can't copy image url from google photos you have to link them. Click on the link and it will show the photos.

Wow Thawk, wish I had found this forum before I threw away the clip for the cobra I installed. My best thought was to store it under the center arm rest.
I'm new to this forum (and forums in general, so any mistakes or poor etiquette, please point them out) and figured I might be able to add my antenna install as an option.
First off, I clamped the antenna mount to my roof rack. I know big no no, but my goal is to use this for trail talk, I don't need to reach 10 miles even. I figured if I ran in to SWR problems I would figure out how to do a proper ground. Turns out, SWR is fine (so at least I won't burn up my radio). I tested it once, in the middle of L.A. surrounded by apartment buildings. My buddy could here me 3 miles out, I could hear him for another 2 after that. So as long as I don't fall to far behind it should be fine up in the mountains.
The cable just squeaks under the trunk when opening and closing. Behind the tail light on the Drivers side I drilled a small hole, inserted a grommet and some silicone. Here's the easy part, behind the plastic above the rear driver side wheel well is a fuse box. In my TH there was an unused fuse, just waiting for something to do. Then a fish wire under the plastic trim along the bottom of the door to under the front seat, a couple screws for the power supply and done.

If you do, i would be interested in seeing your setup.

I have been thinking about the idea of installing an Export Radio instead of a CB radio. Maybe a Stryker SR-955HP with expanded frequency modification. I like the idea of having a Ham Radio, but also being able to "switch over" to CB mode to talk with the CBers.

Some great mounting information in the posts above - thanks.

Ive got a mount that fits perfectly onto the horizontal roof bars (I have Thule ones) and that has a 3/8" in stud so now all I need to do is find a way to get the cable down and into the Jeep. I really dont want to drill any hole, so Im looking to route the cable down and into the lower edged of the tailgate.
