I've had my Renny for a year and used the back quite often. The other week though, I was closing the hatch and the hydraulic rod popped off. I thought I broke it, but I was able to pop it back onto the ball joint.

Is this seriously the only way that the hydraulic rods are connected though? Through a ball joint? Anyone else had an issue with this? I even grabbed the handled underneath to close the back hatch! It's not like I grabbed the edge of the hatch.

You would be shocked at how common it is in MANY vehicles. I work for a parts distributer and this is BY FAR the most common method for trunks and hatches, and is also fairly common for hoods these days.

    Yep, pretty common mounting standard.

Guess I'm just the first to find out it's not fantastic. Chevy definitely had a better mount on their Trailblazer.

    Thanks for the feedback!

My 4Runners hatch struts actually bolted on but that's not common anymore like others have said.
