Has anyone noticed that shifting from 1st to 2nd is kind of hard like there is a detent or something keeping you from going straight into second?
It's a slow shifting trans, so how fast are you shifting? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
well I tried all different speeds and also tried double clutching. Its kind of a pain when driving from stop lights and I take off and go to shift to 2nd and there is that little pause and I can see the people behind start to ride my bumper.
Hi ayost, If you decide to visit your local dealership I would be happy to follow up with them for you. Just PM our page with your VIN and contact information if that's the case! Andrea Jeep Social Care Specialist
Yes. Try your 1st gear to reach up close to around 15 mph before you go to 2nd... then you have to assist with a clutch (slightly at the high end clutch pedal pressure) when your 2nd gear starts, that is what I learned from mine. It goes way smoother that way. I drove manual trans all my life, and this BU is touchy.
By the way, I shift to second at 3500 rpm. If I shift 2nd at below 3k there is no power to start the 2nd gear.. and that's when I feel the same way you described.
Definitely have to go into second gear at a higher rpm than what is "normal." The 1.4L is really grumpy before the turbo spins up. I personally put a K&N filter in and that actually felt like it helped a bunch. I have the gfb dv+ coming in soon because i dont trust European OEM diverter valves (had a bad experience with an audi 1.8t). Maybe this will help more.
How many miles do you have on our Renny? I am around 6500mi and the shifting has gotten a little bit better. I started shifting around 15mph like you said and that seems to help.
I also have about 3k miles, its not my dd. try to listen into the engine while you are accelerating and doing gear shifting... the sound and roar will tell you what she needs... that is what my dad thought me on how to drive stick 40 years ago.
