I don't know how I missed this before but, I just read an article on Technology Tell and in it, there was mention of Jeep Performance Parts Rock Rail Guards installed on the Renegade Frostbite that will be on display at the 2014 SEMA Show. See below... And, after taking a closer look, I did in fact see what they were referring to. Check it out - in this first photo of a standard Jeep Renegade, all you have is plastic cladding lining the bottom of the rocker panels... And, if you look at this shot of the Renegade Frostbite, you can clearly see body formed rocker guards... I'm not sure what they are made out of or how they are attached but, I aim to find out this coming week!! In any case, I am excited to see that there's at least one option available already and right from the factory.
The best part about this news is that Jeep already has mounting points designed into the Renegade for rocker guards. This means manufacturers can work off of these points to develop their own guards instead of having to looking for ways to make it work.
thank god they are putting rock rails on it! you wouldnt be able to open your door after one trip prob without them
Sorry to bump such an old post, but these have my attention if they do in fact release them. Looks very similar to what was on the '13 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk. They were made of 3/16" steel on the Grand Cherokee and attached with about 30ish bolts on the top and bottom of the rails. Quite stout.
I have a feeling that the Renegade rocker guards are modeled after them and, from what I had seen, they looked stout indeed. I have little doubt that Mopar will offer them and, if nobody else comes out with a set, we will get them for our Renegade.
has mopar released some? or.... nah.... its so hard to search for jeep renegade stuff on the internet because they named 4 different jeeps renegades before. bastards.
Ive been looking for awhile, nothing in their catalog despite them showing these rocker guards on several of their show vehicles. Ill probably end up going aftermarket if MOPAR doesn't have something by the end of this year.
It's highly doubtful they would be any cheaper than what's already out. I trust the Rocky Road ones the most, not just because I bought them, but they've been making rails for years, and heard or read no issues about them 1 bit. Their design is the best (IMHO) and don't break the bank. The design of the Mopar ones, if that's what they'll look like, don't push the obstacle away from the doors, picture hitting them. If you slide off there's only 1 place to go, that's the bottom of the door. Look at daystars, with the overused round design. At least they stick out some. I use the sliders from RRO, and even the basic design, the square of the rail protrudes out from the body a bit, keeping most harm away from the doors. Of course there is always the large, oddly shaped Boulder you may run across, but I would prefer some distance from the rock/door rather than look sleek. I had been studying the rails for a LONG time, since that little blue/white concept Rene was shown. I loved them, till I saw RRO and their tried and tested design
