I really love the idea of filters like a K&N and used to run them all the time. Recently, we've been seeing a lot of Wrangler folks who've been having oil consumption issues with their 3.6L motor and FCA has been blaming it on too much dust getting into the motor. Needless to say, they have been voiding warranty work on engines that aren't running paper filters. Just something to think about.
Just us some food for thought,my RT-Charger starting useing oil also with the kn filter which dodge sells as an up grade with lots of other goodies not advertise. It turns out msd engines not only mother mopar started useing oil and fords started haveing heavy despots in the back 2 cylinders. Well to solve this problem hot rodders are installing catch cans. These hookup and the extra blow by oil is not pumped back into the cylinder heads to burn but reaped in a little can you drain. Just my 2 cents and if it helps just another way to skin a cat.
Years back I was reading about the sediment/dust that was getting past the K&N's, but didn't believe it. I figured it was internet hype with people jumping on the band wagon. I had a K&N in my Dodge Ram at the time, so I cleaned it while doing an oil change on the truck and cleaned the inside of the intake tube. The next oil change I wiped down the intake tube and was really surprised with how dirty the inside of the tube was. That was enough for me, so I sold the K&N filter and put the stock one back in. The next oil change when I wiped the tube down it was damn near clean. Since then I have never put a K&N back into one of my vehicles. I was doing any different driving or in different areas to change the amount of dirt being filtered.
