FrankenJeeper checking in. Not sure if I'll be buying a new "Toaster Jeep", as my JKU is my daily driver, and I also have an old 77 CJ5. I've learned since buying my JKU that owning 2 Jeeps is staying broke, always buying parts for both, and double the "projects". So more than likely, a new Jeep is unwise at the moment, but who knows what the future may hold?
LOL!! Welcome to ToasterJeep FrankenJeeper! If there is a benefit to the Renegade, you'll most likely never wheel it the way you do your other Jeeps and so, the way I see it, this one will be the fuel efficient reliable one that you can take to work while your play Jeeps are in the garage getting fixed
That may be the selling point for me, is fuel economy, as well as having a designated daily driver to depend on.
Thanks! My CJ5 I got when I was a freshman in high school, about a month after my dad went into remission from cancer, so that has always been our project together. Its a 1977 with AMC 20 and Dana 30, 3 speed and 258 inline 6. It's been restored to drive able condition (when we started it had no brakes, wouldn't shift I to 4wd and was running on 3 cylinders lol). It's currently sprung over on 33's, and being driven once a month or so. It's got chromoly 1 piece rear axle shafts, new replacement seats front and rear, Best Top Replace-A-Top, custom side steps, 2 pairs of spot lights, custom made dash knobs, custom shift knob and a couple other doodads here and there. My JKU Sport is a '10 I bought in spring of 2012. It's lifted 4" on 35's, rocking a Trek Top I got this summer. It's also got LED rock lights and a pair of KC 130w spot lights on the windshield. I built some custom 3" wide mini fenders out of 3/16" plate steel this past summer as well.
