So, for the most part, I have found the new Jeep Renegade's 9-speed automatic transmission to be smooth and quite nice. Of course, the manual shift is awesome but that's not why I'm making this post. On occasion, I've noticed that my transmission wants to shift hard especially when climbing a slight grade at highway speeds and only when I let off the accelerator and then reapply it. I've also noticed this a couple of times soon after backing out of my garage - coming to a complete stop and then trying to go forward. It's almost as if I were low on transmission fluid or something. It doesn't happen all the time so for the most part, I don't give it much thought but wanted to see if anyone else out there was experiencing this.

Are you planning to work with the local dealership with this jeep or go to Vegas where you bought it?

Honestly, I have no faith that any dealership will know how to work on a Renegade and so, I will most likely just use my local one.

Well damn! I totally missed this article yesterday but, totally explains what we're most likely experiencing.

For those of you who have not click on the link, this is a highlight of what it says.

Guess I'll be making a trip to the dealership once a TSB or recall is issued. :(

    Thanks for the heads up.

It also explains why there has been a slowdown of Renegades arriving at dealerships.

I'm skeptical of taking mine to the dealer also because every time I've had to visit a dealer in reference to anything Renegade related, they all seem stumped. I had more information about the Renegade than every dealer I checked in with which was really mind blowing. But I too have hard shifts on occasion. :/

LOL!! I hear you on the dealerships having no clue. All the ones I've talked to all seem to think I'm asking about the new Cherokee. Fortunately, it's not a critical problem, just something I've noticed. I'm definitely going to wait until there's a TSB that's released before talking my Renegade in. At least that way, they will have instructions from FCA as to what they need to do.

We are experiencing this too! Surging rpms sometimes go up to 4000 when we're going downhill - at that point I usually switch to manual shift. We've taken it to the dealer a couple of times and they did 1 software update that didn't resolve. didn't find anything anything else - but now it all makes sense. Thanks for the post - will be looking forward to an update from Jeep. You'd think the dealers would be informed... They looked at me sideways and said oh really when I brought up the article. People just need to own it so we know what's up.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one! So far as I know, Jeep is aware of this even though their dealerships may not be. I'm sure there will be a TSB issued soon. Hopefully if enough of us get the word out to the dealerships, this can be hurried along.

Don't know about you guys and gals but when I first got my Renegade I had issues with hard shift from 3rd to 4th gear. Took it to the dealer and said some sort of electronic module from the shifter to the tranny was toast...er. They fixed that and my satellite radio antenna I didn't even mention and also updated my software and I was back on the road. Should ask your dealer about it. I'll try to get the exact part in question when I get off work since the work order is at my house.

    Booger Jeep Chicken Hawk...

So it says on my work order that it was the shifter assembly.

    "Installed 5ZM57HL1AA :SHIFTER: TOWER 5ZM Qty: 1"

"FAULT CODE U0103. PERFORM DIAG TEST FOR FAULT CODE"

"REPLACE SHIFTER ASSY. TEST DRIVE. OK"

It was under "21CH: AUTOMATIC TRANS" description.

Thanks for the heads up. As soon as I get some time, I will have to make an appointment to visit my dealer.

Does anyone else notice the loud ticking noise that the 2.4 L tiger shark makes when idling?!? Is it suppose to be a loud sounding engine?!? Added I've noticed a lot of lag when driving slowly and when the gas pedal is pushed down it takes awhile for the tranny to kick in and boost power.

I don't hear ticking noise per se. When I press the gas to accelerate I do get hesitation, but I'm used to it because my BMW X5 has that. Take note though the hesitation on the X5 is way worse and I'm used to it on the Renny.

Madness auto works has a GOPEDAL that you can purchase that once installed will tune the acceleration to your desired comfort. Check them out.

I have the Trailhawk and I've also had the hard shifts when it's cold out...like unbearably hard, it looks like I'm a 15 year old teenager learning to drive stick. I also had a situation where putting the car slowly from D to N to R back to N it got stuck, flipped out, felt like I hit something even though I was parked.

Have an appointment for 11/6 so hopefully I'll know more of what jeep can do out here in Northern PA
