Took the Renegade 50ish miles from job in Boston to home through this month's "Nor'Easter to end all Nor'Easters"
It was 50 miles of a highway that was covered with 3-4 inches of heavy, wet snow. It was just snowing too hard and fast for the plows to keep up. I prefer to set the transmission to Sand mode and to completely disable the ESC for driving in conditions like this. Had no problem going through the deep piles of snow that form at intersections and on/off ramps .

Here is a short vid of the conditions I drove through. The biggest problem I had was visibility. 250 feet at the most, worse when the wind kicked up.

4x4 here too and couldn't agree more about the tires, factory tires are terrible and i only have 500 miles on them....just two good dedicated snow tires on the back of my fr-s makes a would of a difference....traction is key in any vehicle

My Rene is only 2wd. I know I can't rock climb but I so sort of wanna get it dirty a bit.
What are the capabilities of a 2wd, if any

Depends....idk if the fwd are open diff or some kind of lsd....lsd is great in the snow with good tires to help you get going...my mk4 vw gti was a tank in the snow and dirt.....honestly tires are the number one upgrade for any vehicle.

Auroboros, IMO 2wd is good in snow sometimes better than 4x4 (Fact: winter time most suvs that ends up on the ditch are 4x4) and your 2wd is okay on flat dirt roads if you like it to get dirty. Just stay out of deep uneven surface trails because your suspension does not flex much and you are relying on 2 front wheels. Stay away from sand and deep mud... ask me why I know :)
