Hello, new member here. I am an avid Jeep guy. Currently have a 2013 JK, 5” lift, steel bumpers and flares, winch, and all the other goodies. I am a retired collision tech / fabricator. I’m looking at a 2016 renegade limited. It’s got 70,000 miles, one owner, clean car fax. I really like these little Renegades, as daily driver. Is there anything I should know, or look for ? Is the 2.4 engine, and 8 speed transmission reliable ? Thank you. Figured you all, would know them well.

    W E L C O M E ! ! ! to the forum.

The Renegade transmission is a 9 speed, it is a little bit lazy and has to hunt for gear that best suites the moment.
Once you learn how to drive the 9 speed transmission, it really isn't a bad little Jeep.

My 2.4l without modifications was getting about 24 MPG in mountain style driving, running up and down in elevation 1000 to 4500 feet daily.
After adding close to 1ooo pounds of Bumpers (front and rear), winch, rock sliders, bigger tires and lift, I am getting about 17 MPG.

BUT, it is still a fun, daily driver for me.

… I am sure that you will get lots of input from here.

Welcome to the forum. Is the Renegade at a Jeep dealership? A few things to check out - the Renegades have had a number of software updates over the years, be sure to verify that they have all been completed. The radio plays an important part in the Renegade, it has a number of menus where you can set up the Renegade to your liking. You can change how the doors lock and unlock, headlight operation, bluetooth settings, etc, etc.

Also, there was a recall (recall V54) on the radiator fan replacement for 2015 and I think certain 2016's. I had mine replaced a few months ago. You can check the recall by entering the VIN at this website.

The transmission is actually a 9 speed. Be sure to take it for a good ride to make sure the transmission shifts smoothly. When downshifting from 5th into 4th gear the Renegade will actually speed up a little bit. It is in the design, a little wierd, takes a little getting used to.

I have about 85,000 miles on my 2015 and have not had any major issues. I like it a lot, very comfortable, handles great, solid feel, is a tank in the snow, mileage has been good. They replaced my radio but the problem was actally the speakers.

There is an awful lot of great info in this forum. Also, there are some very knowledable owners here that check in regularly.
