Just a general question regarding driving a wrangler and going to a Renegade.
Your thoughts and experiences please. Best regards Mick.

Well, I own both and what I can tell you is that comparing the two is like comparing apples and oranges. Around town or on the highway, the Renegade is a much better vehicle as it is more comfortable, handles better, is more maneuverable and of course, gets better fuel economy. I would even venture to say that on fire roads and simple trails, the Renegade is still more comfortable due to the IFS/IRS. That being said, the Wrangler isn't terrible by any means, has a lot more cargo capacity and of course, when it comes to real off roading, it dominates the Renegade.

    Hi Eddie
    Thanks for the informative answer.
But I wanted to know if anyone has gone from owning a wrangler to solely owning a Renegade.
My problem is I have owned and driven 3 wranglers from 94 to present day.
Is it time to change or not?
I love my 09 jeep jk wrangler but is it time for a change of vehicle got to be a jeep ;)

I made the switch from 2010 JK Unlimited to the Renegade. I really enjoyed the JK., but after 5 years I had the itch to change and started to re-evaluate my needs.

As I was not doing major off-roading it made sense to downsize to the Renegade. For all the points Wayolife stated. It is the right Jeep for my needs.

Thank you for sharing your experience in switching over to a Renegade.
I think it is time to make my mind up one way or the other.
The Ideal world would be to have both ;)
But that is not possible alas.
I do not offroad ( be gentle with me)
But I do love my jeep wrangler and drive it every day.
I will ponder on my options and get back to you sometime.
    Regards Mick

If you don't off road or don't do anything of significance, a Renegade is definitely what I would recommend you get.

I knew you would say that :)

Time to make my choice out of three options.

    1. A diesel powered Renegade.

    2. keep my wrangler.

    3. Or await the arrival of the New jeep wrangler.

    Decisions Decisions Decisions

    P.S.
I will leave others to do the meaningful significant things
Whilst I have fun driving my jeep :)

get lost of the wrangler and get the limited 2.0 Multijet 4x4 140HP ... you don´t want to have your Wrangler back ... i bet

but be afraid ... don´t wash your Renegade past Midnight as it will turn over to the Dark side ...

I have TJ and a JK. Now this BU, they are all stick shifts. They have their own characters at their own right. BU is for around town, JK is for showing off, TJ is for off roads. I can not see a comparison on wich one is better, but the technology is getting fancier. It's getting harder to do your own maintenance.

Andy, glad to know you had a TJ as well, I think TJs are my best models... JK is a bit bigger for me doing trails and tight rocks.. but I like all the jeeps minus the new technologies. Maybe because I am already over 50.

I do agree with all the new technologies ..... don't like at all!! I would love to have a Willy's military from the 40's - 50's!!

I had really wanted a TJ Unlimited. Unfortunately around here they go for stupid money. I didn't care for how the JK grew so much in size and price compared to the TJ.

We ended up with the Renegade because my wife needed a new daily driver, and after getting the Impala SS hung up in Monument Valley we wanted something that would be better on road trips to national parks and other less developed places. I pushed for the Trailhawk version, it's an incredibly good value and should be more than enough capability for the national forest roads and other unimproved roads and trails. It's not going to climb boulders but I don't need to do that with it.

I've owned a couple CJs and three Wranglers. Love driving them. I live about two miles off the pavement on a county road. I kayak and occasionally drive some moderate trails. I drive thirty miles every day round trip for work. The Wrangler was just more vehicle than I needed. The Renny is a huge upgrade in fuel economy and for the price I think it's probably one of the more capable SUVs on the market. I miss my big Jeep but I love driving the Renny and it does everything I need it too.

For me, I went from a 2012 JKU to the TH. I have to say that I didn't miss the extra fuel stops on long trips - my mpg basically doubled. I did miss the space - there's a lot of things I could get into the JKU that I couldn't get in the TH. Handling was great. It was nice and nimble, and I enjoyed a lot of the features. My biggest negative was more of a personal preference - the Renny was the first auto I had ever owned. If the TH became available in manual I would be the first in line to trade up.

Since then we needed to get a second vehicle, and so we picked up a 2014 JK. That is my daily driver now, with my wife driving the Renny every day. I still enjoy the quiet ride when we have to swap. The TH is a great option - and we love ours!
