So my 18 Renegade sport decided to throw a fit and flash service 4wd.
The next day I had a grinding and knock when coming to a stop , happened 4 more times before I could get into the shop.
They had it 4 days, said the rear differential broke and needed replacing.
I picked up my Renegade last Friday and was told all was good, I drive the 40 miles home and than another 20 miles to work. All good so far.
Saturday noon I fire up Renegade and service 4wd light is on again along with message in center of dash that 4wd not available.
Call dealership, they can’t get to it until Tuesday, now I a bit worried as I have 160 miles to go before I can drop it off at the shop again.

The 4wd will engage when the service 4wd light is off,
The service department guy said they had to replace the whole rear differential last week, and they had the car for 4 days , they called and said it’s repaired and ready to pick up.
I did not even get 100 miles on it before the service 4wd light came back on, so it back to the service bay once again.

Received an update from service tech,
The PTU needs replacement, he is not sure if the PTU caused the rear differential to go out or if the rear differential took out the PTU.
Either way this should not be happening to a car/Jeep with less than 22000 miles on it.

    UPDATE:
Called the service department at the dealership I purchased my Renegade at, was informed that the part needed (PTU) to fix my Jeep is on back order with no known shipping date.
Now this work is covered by the warranty but the time table for repair is unexceptable, as I’m stuck in a rental for the duration.
Not only has the dealership lost a satisfied customer so has FCA/ Jeep.
My wife was planning on purchasing a Jeep Cumpus this fall, that now has been changed to another brand of vehicle with a better performance rating.
I myself will never purchase another vehicle from this dealership, which sells Jeep , Dodge and Nessain.

As of today, 500 miles on new replacement PTU and 700 or so on rear differential.
Had to use the 4WD today due to snowstorm.
Drove 45 miles in 4WD, now hear the same rattling noise before all the problems started.
If the rear differential or PTU has gone out again I am going to ask for a replacement car Instead of going through the hassle of replacing the parts once again as I would tend to believe there is something serious wrong with this Renegade Sport.

Sorry to hear that, I have had that error pop up on me once a while ago. The car was on idle and it popped up, and then i turned it off and on again then it went away... Havent seen it since, but it did give me a little fright for a quick second. I hope the jeep or the dealer remedies your situation.
