Hey all. So was driving from L.A. to Yosemite and back and when going up long steep hills (like the Grapevine), whenever I popped on the A/C a very sweet smell would come from the vents. Not every time, but most times. Fearing it was somehow coming from the coolant I would immediately shut it off and open the windows. Anyone else had this experience? Or have any idea what it could be? It's never happened otherwise. Thanks, everyone...
Sure hope it's not something bad, I get it all the time because I run my ac all the time, it actually smells like clean soap washed fabric to me. I drive flat land roads to work each day, 12 miles roundtrip twice a day.
Fresh air smells funny. Seriously though, no. Fuel or oil is obvious and Freon has no odor. Although some cheaper Freon formulas have butane, but that would smell like propane gas. Do Renegades have an in cabin filter? Maybe it's treated with some form of anti-mold compound and the AC running combined with humidity in the air "activates" the anti-mold so come winter time you don't get that mold-musty smell. But I'm guessing here.
Thanks for the responses, all. Seems like worst case scenario is this: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a536/2423551/ (bad heater core). It's definitely not just the normal clean, fresh, antiseptic smelling a/c smell. More like your face was shoved into a giant ball of cotton candy (or maple syrup as the link says). Taking it in tomorrow just to be safe -- will report back...
