I was looking at those as well. My off-roading is predominantly aired down on sand/beach, so i'm trying to determine the best option for that. ...any reason to prefer 235/60r17 AT3 over a 225/65r17 Geolander g015? Also, would it be worth going down to a 16" rim for more sidewall?
Find a proper 16" wheel is the key. One that doesn't hit the caliper, and doesn't have that large of an offset that itll rub the fender. The 225/65 is a taller tire than the 235/60 if you want height, use the taller 1. Also what is available in what sizes may change your mind as well.
The lift will not change where the strut is. Spacers will move the tires away from the strut. I'm not sure if spacers would cause rubbing or not.
235/60r17 Discoverer AT3 is 28.3" diameter, 225/65r17 Geolander G015 is 28.5" diameter...so there is not much diameter difference. the 225/65 has a tiny bit more sidewall too. Obviously the 235/60 is wider, but i cant find a tread width measurement on the AT3 anywhere. What I'm most curious about is where the rub will be if i run 25mm spacers and 235/65r17 Kumho Road Venture (which is a 29" tire).
not quite. Different brands at same size can have different tread widths. For example, at 225/65r17, the KO2 has a wider tread width (7.6") that a g015 (6.8") even though both are 225/65r17.
DUDE!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! SO IT"S SETTLED! 235/65r17 will fit on my 1.5" lifted trailhawk with 1.25" wheel spacers FOR SURE!!!! I was worried about the gamble as well! What does everyone think of 29" Kumho Road Venture AT51
I would love to hear about how the Road Venture AT51 work for you at stock height, and what you have to do to make them fit. Please keep us posted!
very good news! 1) how risky is it to run a 245 wide tire on a 6.5" rim when the minimum recommended is 7" ? 2) what exactly was the mod? risks/downsides?
http://wayalife.com/showpost.php?p=733255 He trimmed the strut. You should have no problem with the wheel width.
even aired down its not risky? (I'm mainly on the beach, so i want to make sure its safe down at like 15psi)
Got my Geolanders put on today. 225/65 r17. Fits well and looks very similar to stock tires but more traction.
