I'm certainly not an engineer, but if you think about the thickness and stiffness of the cargo floor. And you think about the span of the spare wheel well (just the wheel well, since the tire placement hasn't changed). It seems like you'd have to have a pretty significant point load to mess up that floor. The span just isn't that great and the tire is still in place to take some of the weight if the floor deflects. But, like I said, I'm no engineer and so far the heaviest thing I've hauled in the back is groceries.
