My fiancee has a '16 Trailhawk, and we do most of the maintenance on it. (oil, brakes, filters, etc. Reading online, it seems most generic scan tools won't reset the service required light that comes on for scheduled maintenance. (not the oil change light)

Being I'm a computer geek as well, I wanted a tool that did more than my $300 Bosch tool does, as it can really only clear codes on newer cars. I researched different scan tools, and found there's not one perfect choice, it depends on what you want to do. I did look at AlfaOBD, which looks pretty nice, but with the app purchase, bluetooth dongle, adapter cables, etc. it added up, and I can still only use it on FCA cars.

I decided to get a used Snap On Ethos Tech, it supports all the vehicles I work on, has support for a ton of modules, and was "only" $900. It still has a subscription, so I will get the update for '18 vehicles. (don't know how they will deal with the SGW on newer FCA cars) I also didn't want to pay several grand for the witech+subscription

One of the things I noticed, is it has a reset service interval function. This will allow you to clear the perform service message. It also has support for TPMS, electronic parking brake, and a ton more.

I liked the Tech because it has bidirectional controls, doesn't cost a fortune, and has better support than the Chinese tools. The other option is the Ethos edge, which adds support for OBD1 vehicles with adapters.
These are the two cheapest Snappy tools that have bidirectional, as well as the more advanced features.

Look for one with at least 18.2 software, this will cover up to '17. I think the 17.2 would work for '16 vehicles, but don't know if the Renegade is covered. (it is on 18.2)

Just my 2 cents, sorry for the long post

    Hello,
I bought a Foxwell NT530 tool within the specs of be able to reset the Service.
Service reset of the milage counter works, reset of the remaining 365 days works BUT...

The upcoming message 'oil change required' only when engine is running keeps coming + oil light stays on.
Foxwell after sales service is not answering to my questions regarding the correct reset procedure for this tool but
after all, the menu of the tool is not rocket science....

What can i do? The pedal 3x push trick is not working on my car.
