Anyone ever experience this with their Renegade? When I first bought mine back in December it showed my mpg was at around 25. After driving it for a few weeks I got it to climb up to 28.5. Probably a little over a month in it suddenly dropped to 23 mpg. After the larger tires it now has been holding at 22.3 ever since. Nothing was done to it and the driving route never changed. So what gives?
Have you ever reset the mpg display? I reset the mpg each fill up. To reset the mpg display info push and hold the ok button on the left side of the steering wheel. You will see a status bar going from left to right, when it is finished it displays a couple of lines. It will recalculate as you start driving. If it is at 22 it won't change very much unless you get a huge tailwind going down hill. Give it a try.
Mine's varied from 20 to 26 throughout it's life, but usually in the spring when they roll out summer blend it goes up, not down.. how many miles have you put on it, and how many did it have when you got it?
Hmm, I wouldn't expect anything unusual in that mileage range to cause a big drop. If you're habits haven't changed, and the TH still seems to be performing about the same, (No loss of power or other performance issues) I'm not really sure what I'd suspect.. Did you change where you buy gas maybe? It's going to be some small change like that you wouldn't suspect, I'd bet..
Compare the original tires to the larger ones that you are using now. Go to one of the online tire stores (I use TireRack.com for research) and look up the original tires, go to specs and see what the tire's weight is (be manufacture specific). then compare to the weight of the larger tires. If you went to an LT tire (LT225/65R17 for example) the LT weigh a bit more then non-LT tires of the same size. A wider tier (215 to 225 for example) will have less rolling resistance. Tire pressures, if you were running 40 psi in the original tires and now running 35 psi in the larger tire, even more rolling resistance. All of these will effect MPG. On my 2016 Renegade Trailhawk. OEM = 215/65R17 Falken WildPeak H/T, they weigh 27 pounds (times 4 = 108 pounds); 6.9 inch tread width, 28.0 inch diameter. I upgraded to LT245/65R17, BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2, they weigh 44 pounds (times 4 = 176 pounds); 8.0 inch tread width, 29.5 inch diameter. The same size tire, 245/65R17, non-LT weighs only 33 pounds. At 22 mpg, I would say that is about what you should expect to get.
The MPG drop happened before I upgraded to the larger tires, so it was all stock. I get gas at the same place every time. I'll have to take a look at the air filter.
