My hood release broke a few months back. I've McGyver'd it every way short of welding and just opted to buy a new one. I took it to the dealer to ensure the latch mechanism on the side was working properly before I ordered the parts and they said it was. I've seen a post or two about people having latch mechanisms brake. So I should be good there. However, I do not have any before pics to compare it to when I install the new one. If anyone can pop the hood and take a good birds eye view and side angle shots of how the hood release cable connects into the latch, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Pro Tips: I've been working a lot of the jeep recently and had water build up dripping down the sides after it rained. Took the roof rails and roof panels off and found a lot of things in there I did not think were possible to get in there. Next time you clean your renny, I'd pop those off and clean those out.
I hope these are what you are looking for. If not let me know and I will try to get more. Passenger side, left cable is from yellow plastic release lever. Driver's side. Driver's side looking forward Passenger side, release cable from yellow plastic lever on right. Side view passenger side, front to the left. cable from yellow release lever on the left side. Side view, driver side, front to the right.
Well if I hadn't mangled the thing trying to fix it I'd say the dealer would. Had I known a cable and lever would cost $70 then I wouldn't have touched it and brought to them. I'm a little impatient sometimes.
Does anyone know if they sell just the yellow hood release latch, not the whole cable? The plastic latch snapped trying to get the hood open. Only thing I can find is the complete hood release cable. I debated checking a junk yard for one.
Only the whole assembly from Mopar... Dorman makes a slightly cheaper replacement cable, https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-912-487-Release-Compatible-Select/dp/B09BTB2L7F But it's still not cheap at $63...
