Well i did 2 inch spacers, and did the pinch seam mod. I still had some rubbing so i just put a heat gun on the fender liner and pushed it back. It still has a slight rub a full lock, but isn't too bad. To me if was definitely worth getting the look. I know everyone won't feel that way haha
Hey guys, dgr401 referred me over to this thread. I'm hoping someone can help...here's my question... Im new to the Jeep scene and I could really use some help. I have a 2018 Renegade Limited and recently put a Teraflex 1.5" lift and Eibach springs on it. The wheels I bought are Procomp 46 series with Falken Wildpeak tires 245/65/17 and running a 3/4" spacer. Needless to say when I went to put the wheels on my Jeep the tires are way to big and i can barely turn the wheel. The specs on the wheels are 4.75 backspacing and a -.6mm offset. So it looks like I have to get new tires. Teraflex recommends a 225/65/17 tire with this lift but Im wondering with my offset will that tire even work? I know i really screwed myself with this wheel/tire combo but Im hoping ill still be able to use the wheels. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help would really be appreciated!
W E L C O M E ! ! ! to the forum. Your set up pushes your wheel out far enough not to require a wheel spacer. It will definitely rub the rear of the fender liner when you turn the wheels. The pinch weld will need to be modified to clear your 29.5 inch wheel/tire combination and probably still won't be enough not to rub at 3/4 turn. I am running the BFG KO2 245/65r17 (29.5 inch tire) with a +30mm offset and a 1 inch spacer, AVID 2.5 inch lift and the ATP lift springs and I barely fit. Without the spacer your wheel is setting .43 inches further out than mine. I had to lose the 1.5 inch spacer in the front and replace it with a 1 inch spacer so that it would stop rubbing when I was at 3/4 turn (I had to shorten the arc). I read once that 4 inch lift will get you 30 inch tires, with additional modifications. ... additional modifications were: pinch weld cut and fold modification and NO fender liner. I believe that the setup that I am running is as large as you can go and still retain the fender liner without rubbing. To answer your question; 225/65R17 will fit on a stock Renegade without any lift. Your wheels, NO spacer and 225/65R17 would work nicely with your setup. in my humble opinion. Thank you for the awesome feedback. That helps a lot. Unfortunately I have to use the spacer because my wheels are 5x127 so I need the bolt conversion. Do you think if i ran a 225/65 with my setup it would work or would it still stick out to far with the spacers? If I had to I'd remove the fender liner. I'm trying to find the cheapest option at this point since I just bought this wheel/tire setup and possibly have to buy new at this point. I think they would fit a hell of a lot better, YES! take note to where the rub happens- get it up on stands with the front wheels off, an angle grinder and a hammer. I trimmed the whole portion on the rear side flush up about say 6” or so (took quite a few sessions) patched the gap when finished, spray painted and tucked the liner back with some screws. as for the front, I drilled a new hole on the bottom that attached the fender liner about 1.5 inches forward. granted, my lift is a bit higher than yours, this should give you more than a quarter of a turn. (which was where mine rubbed when driving home from the tire shop) It’s going to look ugly but it does the trick! -Mike
Mike, so I just want to make sure I'm understanding correctly, you think if I used the +10 offset wheels with my 245/65 tires with the 3/4 spacer/adapter it would work with trimming correct?
I’m not sure on that, but what I am saying is it will work a hell of a lot better after you trimmed the pinch weld!
No, with the 225 setup and -6mm offset, still no. You are sticking out 2.5 inches too much. With the new rim at 10mm and the 3/4 wheel adapters, you will still be sticking out 1.5 inches too far. You can not cut enough of the pinch weld to get those to work... sorry for the bad news. With the adapters/spacers you will want to be at +5mm at a minimum for 8 inch wide rims, Wheels and Spacers @ 245/65R17. Example 17X8 at 30mm offset, plus a 1 inch adapter (25mm) = 5mm total offset to fit a 245/65R17 tire (with pinch weld modification).
Ok. As painful as it was I ordered a new set of XD818 17x8 +35 wheels and a set of Toyo Open Country A/T II 225/65R17 tires from Custom offsets tonight. I figured the setup I have would never work. So now I have to try and sell those. Thank you for your help! ~Frank
well said, Ed! out of curiosity, where are you getting the formulas for wheels-tires-spacer fitment? I mean where do I stand with a 30.6” tire, on 1.5” wheel spacers? no doubt I had more than usual trimming to get usable results.. I’m sure where there’s a will, there’s a way!
