While driving home tonight, my Service Engine light came on. I have a 2016 Limited and I haven't even had it a week. Less than 200 miles on the odometer! I plan on taking it back to the dealership first thing tomorrow morning. This happen to anyone else? I really hope I didn't get a lemon...

Bummer, yeah roll it back in... Hopefully just a sensor fired off, everything's computerised. I'm merciless to my Trailhawk... 13k no issues. Good gas, fresh oil, rotate the tires, wax it up, drive it hard, get it filthy... Repeat!

Mine came on early as well. It ended up being a radiator fan motor assembly...when they ordered it, there were 691 on back order so I am guessing it may have been common...
    Good luck with it...

I had the light come on when I got into the car at the dealership... They had driven it about 120 miles from a different dealership. Unfortunately it was the weekend and none of their service guys were there, so there salesman advised I drive a little and see if it went away. It took a lot of miles of driving and a day and a half, but the light did disappear, and hasn't returned for a couple hundred miles. These cars have so many sensors, there are a lot of things that could throw a code.

    Andrea,
Thank you for your response. I took my Renegade in today to get my protection package and for them to look at the service engine code. I was told that the code was related to some software updates (PCM, TCM, ABS, and BCM). After I left the dealership, maybe a mile down the road, I noticed that the service engine light was still on. I didn't notice it come back on when I started the vehicle to leave, but that doesn't mean it didn't alarm (I was trying to get all my seat settings and everything back to where I needed it, so I could have just missed it). So I turned around and drove back to the dealership. I came back about 45 minutes before the service department was scheduled to close. I told the service person (the same person who I had spoken to about the code originally when I picked up my vehicle) that the light was still on. He informed me that the service tech indicated in his report that he drove the vehicle and that the code did not return. He then told me that if I wanted to leave my car, they would give me another courtesy vehicle and take care of looking at it tomorrow. I'm having trouble understanding why it couldn't be taken care of at that moment since I was just there literally 10 mins prior and it's the same issue that doesn't seem to have been resolved. I asked if there was a chance that the warning would go away with a couple trips. He said that it's possible. I asked if someone could look to see if the codes just needed to be cleared and he informed me that the service tech is supposed to clear the codes upon resolution of the issue. I wanted my car back so I just told him that I would drive it another day and make another appointment if it didn't go away.

Is this typically how this sort of issue is handled?

I'd recommend going to an auto parts store and getting them to read the code for you (should be free) so you can at least have an idea what it is. It's possible they didn't clear the code when they addressed the issue, but if it doesn't go away after several driving sessions and about 50 or so miles I'd definitely take it back to the dealership.
