I live way out in the boonies and would love to utilize the high beams and the fogs at the same time. Has anyone attempted this? Thanks Sent from my SM-N910V using ToasterJeep mobile app
I would bet that they don't work at the same time since they'd be working cross-purposes. If you're using foglamps for actual fog conditions, high beams would be the last thing you'd want to turn on.
Adwmac6 just wants the distance of high beams and the spread of the fog light/driving light. When you live in the boonies it's nice to be able see far in front and to the sides.
I am aware of what's wanted. I'm simply pointing out that from the factory the computer is going to be configured to not provide this. Perhaps the computer can be reconfigured with the proper scan tool, but it's not going to be easy to change.
Actually it already works when you pull the lever towards you to flash your high beams, rather than push the lever forward to engage the high beams and leave them on. So I know it is possible. Sent from my SM-N910V using ToasterJeep mobile app
The only thing preventing it is the computer. Modern vehicles' electrical systems are not like older vehicles. Just about every switch in the cabin runs to the computer. The computer takes input from these switches and based on its programming, takes action against the relays that it controls. The relays in-turn actuate the various functions that the body control computer controls. So yes, you can temporarily activate the brights while the fog lights are on, because when the switch is pushed into the temporary position the computer interprets this differently than when you push the switch into the permanent position, where the computer is instructed to disable the fog lamps.
If it were me, I'd probably look to an accessory driving light. Hella, Cibie, Piia - lots of options.
I haven't done it to the Toaster but I've done it to a previous vehicle where I had to tap into the wiring harness and find the wires that control the fogs as well as the wires tat control the high beams. I ended up tapping them into my headlights so every time they turned on either manually or by the sensor, the fog lights were activated as well. It's possible like you said since you can pull back the lever and turn your high beams on well the fogs are activated. Just haven't seen it yet since the Renegades are still fairly new to the market... Sent with my telegraph using electricity...
I would be disinclined to physically monkey with the wiring on a vehicle whose lights are computer controlled like this. The most I'm comfortable with is installing the pigtail harness that powers the aftermarket trailer lighting controller. I'd hate for a change to start affecting the body control module, especially since this vehicle is imported and fairly new as a chassis, and parts availability is not terribly spectacular.
