How are people attaching cargo baskets to their roof racks? I need something with a slim profile to allow mysky to function, preferably not zip ties. Thanks in advance! [emoji205] Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
You will need to purchase cross bars, unfortunately I haven't seen a Renegade that has a low profile cargo basket. The cargo racks will come with u-bolts or a mechanism to attach the cargo carrier to the support bars which in turn attaches to your roof rails. Hope this helps you out... Thanks I have the crossbars and the basket, however previous owner used Zipties. Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
Yikes, I wouldn't do that, the rack should come with the mounts especially if your using it for its actual purpose and not for the visual enticement!! Sent with my telegraph using electricity...
Hi all! What crossbars do you recommend? I have a Thule snowboard rack that attaches to crossbars, so that's all I need. I have a Trailhawk, so the roof rails already exist. Thank you!
I installed a Rhino Rack with standard Yakima towers/round crossbars. Had ordered the Thule Aero Blades as the ratchet strap mechanism to attach them to the rails looked pretty stable but turned out the vendor was out of stock and needed them before the holidays so Yakima it was and they are solid, been on over a year now. Check out these 2 threads. Nina has a powered MySky, and uses low profile Thule cross bars for her basket, and can still open her sun roof. http://toasterjeep.com/index.php?threads/ko2s-and-spacers-before-lift.876/ Here is her install post: http://toasterjeep.com/index.php?threads/roof-rack-mod-with-mysky.1054/
I've got Yakima Timberline towers with steel Core cross bars (also Yakima, 50") I like the Core cross bars because they're steel rather than aluminum and the black is actually a vinyl coating. Sent from my SM-G920T using ToasterJeep mobile app
Real quiet, I start to hear i t around 70, but by then you're hearing the mirrors as well. They make fairings and a gismo they call a wind jammer as well. My present system has the "Core" bars which are quieter than my old round bars (they're shaped like a wing) but they're still made of steel with a vinyl coating like the original round bars. It's my second Yakima system and I've loaded them down like the Beverly Hillbillies... The coating is tough and Yakima makes tons of accessories. Sent from my SM-G920T using ToasterJeep mobile app
I didn't notice much of a difference empty... Some folks say they have a mile or two. On a 400 mile trip from Vegas to the Brianhead area of Utah I averaged 23 mpg - empty rack, 80-85 mph on the highway and over 100 miles steep mountain roads. Not bad at those speeds and that was point to point from my driveway. On another trip, mostly highway, with four adults the cargo area full and the rack basket (Megawarrior 48" x 52") LOADED with duffels, a cooler etc to approx. 20" high I got 21mpg rolling 75-80mph.
