Difference in front fender liner!

    I was wondering if anybody else has noticed the front fender liners don't have the pinch seam bump in them?

    I noticed it on my 2019 renegade sport 4x4 1.3t. I want to toss some achilles dessert hawk XMT @ 225-75r16 on it.

    What do you all think??

    Hmm, I'll have to go take a peak at one... On the Wranglers they changed the pinch seam on the rear in later years because so many people were trimming them to fit 35's, (I did on my '08, didn't have to on the wife's '15), Maybe they cut it back a bit under the fender liner...

    I hope this isn't a dead forum. Already hard to get info or conversation about what I believe is a great little trail rig.
    Gonna be measuring the difference between my 2018 upland and my 2019 sport 1.3t.

    Ok so this is a new unibody also, BV model. Nothing will fit from the BU series. Cant wait to see what comes out for it, if anything.

    Seeing a lot of conflicting reports on the differences and what fits, like lift kits labeled as 2015~2020 Renegade BU... Which I thought all 2019 and up were BV? The dealership I bought my 2017 from had a 2019 lattitude with a 2" ATP Lift installed, And ATP lists all the kits they sell for the renegade as fitting 2015 to present Renegades on their website, so maybe most suspension kits are still fine.

    Rocky road on the other hand specifies their front winch bumper fits all 2015 to 2020 Trailhawks, Their Sliders don't specify any years at all, and their lift kit specifies BU..

    Seems like it's a real mixed bag two model years into the BV model already...

    I really just want a 2" spring lift and 225/75r16 XMT's hope that a spring lift will get me closer to it.

    The Achilles Desert Hawk XMT is supposedly a 29.3" tire...

    I think your biggest problem might be fitting it under the spring perch, the parts catalog show the same strut for both the 2016 latitude and the 2020, so unless the strut is canted more on the 2020, I'm guessing it won't fit under there... so that would probably mean a spacer, and on the BU, that meant you had to trim the pinch seam alot for a 29", let alone a 29.3".

    I'd say it will depend a lot on that pinch seam...

    I'm taking it to a local tire place next week, gonna bring my 2018 and the 2019 so we can get measurements. I should be fine in the rear?
    I just wish the guy with the post about the higher perch struts had come through for the forum. If all else it might be time for some cross referencing part numbers for the struts.

    I should also explain that I do not want to use a spacer, I offroad in some pretty tight trails(folded in mirrors, trees brushing against the paint).

    I'll get some pictures on sunday of my wheel wells and the pinch seem area.

    The rear should be fine. The Bilsteins, B8 5100 supposedly give another inch of clearance on the perch, and are a 1" lift strut, but are earning a reputation as being weak for serious wheeling. Strangely though, Bilsteins site tells me it will fit a 2019 Renegade, but not a 2020.

    I run 1.25" spacers on mine, and wheel tight trails, Lots of branch pin-striping on my Renny, I've never had any issues with the tire poke out, but I guess I can see concerns if you don't want the rims getting scratched up some.

    with the b8 5100, the fix for weakness might be too add a 1/2" to the bump stops? I am searching all avenues for at least 2" of extra height.

    Going on a week long overlanding trip this summer so I want to be sure I can be safe and have fun without any breakdowns or issues!

    Yeah, Looking at that I'm betting it's still got the same (Or a Similar) Seam behind there, and they've just run a plastic ridge all the way down the liner...

    I don't think there are any external bump stops to adjust, they're built into the struts..

    The Bilstein failures I've seen pictures of (I've never witnessed one) seemed to be the 'Wings' that go around the top of the knuckle where the bolts go through, It might be possible to reinforce that area with added material around the strut base, Another consideration, The ones I saw twisted were all subjected to some rather hard wheeling..

    When it warms up outside again I'll go pull the fender liner back, and snap some pics. I am hoping it just a smaller seam. Knowing my luck it will be fill on in there. LOL

    If I could get some pictures of the failed ones that would be amazing, then I could just come up with a plan to reinforce them.

    Honestly, I don't know, I searched for the two other occurrences I'd heard of, and couldn't find them again, But given that I've really only heard of three cases, it could actually be install errors, the one above looks to me like it could have been caused by the knuckle and strut being subjected to opposite twisting forces. (Jeeps goes left and tire/wheel goes right, like if the tire was jammed in between two rocks)

    The main thing I see as a problem in that design is that the ears the bolts go through are just flat metal, if you look at the stock struts, the material is slightly thinner, but has a stamped lip, That actually adds a significant amount of strength.

    If I were going to try and reinforce it, I'd try to make a horse shoe shaped piece that wrapped around the whole lower part of strut body, with the material wrapping the entire circumference, and if you could find a way to add ribbing to it, that would make it significantly stronger.

    The biggest drawback I see at that point is you're nearly designing your own strut :)
