I recently installed some new Method Racing wheels with BFG KO2 tires (225/65/17). After searching the net for some time it was unclear how much pressure to run in them on a Renegade. I decided to call BFG myself to get a clear answer. They put me on hold for a bit after I gave them the vehicle specs they needed. They said the optimum pressure for a 225/65/17 KO2 on a Renegade is 45 psi. This is at full temp while driving NOT cold. So I’ve been testing out pressures and monitoring the tires and how the set on a completely flat concrete garage floor before and after my 30 mile commute to and from work. Seems as though 45 psi is a little on the high side. The outer edges of my tires are ever so slightly raised off the floor. Keep in mind I just had a good friend of mine do an alignment after my Avid 2” lift which came back all dead centered in the green. So..... what pressures are you guys running in you KO2s?
45PSI is Nuts! Although they probably would give you the best gas mileage at that pressure, you're gonna wear out the center of the tread in no time... Everyone's ideal pressure is going to be different depending on how the vehicle is equipped and loaded, the best scenario is to have as much of a contact patch as possible. The way to figure it out is to mark a chalk line side to side across the tread, and then drive the vehicle in a straight line to wear the chalk off. If the chalk remains in the center, add pressure, if it remains on the edges, lower the pressure. when it wears off evenly, you've found the right pressure. The problem is, the proper pressure is going to probably be around 26 to 30 PSI, (You've put a larger tire with a stiffer side wall on) which is going to set off the tire pressure monitoring, Because of that, I run mine around 31PSI, the lowest I can get without it setting off the alarm, but the ideal pressure on my Toyo OC II 235/65R17s should be 27.
I am running mine at 36 psi cold, around 40 psi when warmed up. ... anything lower than 29 psi will set off the TPMS light.
