Looking and trying to get as much info as possible on which model to get. I know I want 4x4. Leaning towards the Trail version. I like that it sits a little higher.

    W E L C O M E ! ! ! to the forum.

If it is for the looks more than function, go for the one that has what you the options that you most desire.
Lift kits, rims and tires, bumpers and accessories. You can get the looks you are looking for with just a few modifications.

Go to Cargurus. Put in what you want. You can do either a new car search or used. You can filter by almost anything. I'd start by looking within a couple of hundred miles...but look nationally. You will be surprised at the differences in price across the country. On new ones, where you live can cause a problem as FCA will put limits on some incentives based upon where YOU live not where the dealer is. They obviously want to move certain vehicles in certain areas of the country so incentives can be different.

If you can wait, get a 19 after the first of the year. I waited for an 18 till the first of June and killed it getting a 31,045 MSRP vehicle for 21,100. It was a loaded Latitude with everything I wanted including cold weather package, navigation, remote start, tow/full spare etc, you can get on a Latitude except the sunroof, Beats and tech packages. I would have liked the sunroof but not a deal breaker. The deals on Trailhawks were NOT nearly as good. The regular sound system is surprisingly nice imho.

What you will find is that when FCA and dealers want to move things they will go all out. AND right now they appear to be starting good incentives earlier than last year with at present like 4200 off and more if you meet certain criteria as a customer. You can find low mileage used ones costing more than new when the incentives are at their very best. Incentives will be model specific based upon what is NOT moving off the lots.

If you are willing to travel set up your own financing if possible and this can help a dealer get you all incentives, but they don't like it since they usually try to hit you on interest rates if you buy through them getting some of that deal back. IF you buy at a distance, get the deal done before you actually travel there or there is a good chance at "unexpected" charges as they know you came aways to get it. IF, you get a good deal on a non-Trailhawk, you can lift it, get better wheels/tires and even some nice aftermarket bumpers (Avid Contour as example) and end up close to a Trailhawk except for maybe Moab like runs.

    Welcome to forum.

The Trailhawk has quite a bit more to offer than the other models. The suspension is stronger, it sits higher as you mentioned which part of that height are the stronger springs and larger tires, 215/65/17 vs 215/60/17 for others. Some models have 18" wheels but I am not familiar with their sizes. The Trailhawk comes with skid plates for the engine, transmission, center, and gas tanks. The Upland model (based on a Latitude) has front skid plates and front tow hooks. The Trailhawk comes with 2 front tow hooks and 1 rear tow hook. The Latitude, Sport and Limited have no tow hooks for recovery, a drawback if you want to seriously go off road. All the 4wd have auto, snow, sand and mud. The Trailhawk also has those modes plus rock mode, hill decent which keeps the TH at a reasonable downhill speed, plus it also has 4low (actually it just uses 1st gear) for better traction. The Trailhawk has a 20:1 crawl vs 17:1 for the other models. The Trailhawk can ford 19" of water, if I remember correctly the other models are limited to around 11" of water. The 2019 Trailhawk has a new 1.3L Turbo as opposed to the 2.4L in the other models which will give the Trailhawk more torque. The 1.3L is available as an option in some of the other models, but I don't think all models.

Those are some of the obvious differences that I can think of. If I can come up with more I will post them.

Good luck with you decision. Keep us posted.

Thanks Redfour5 for the tips! I’ll wait like you said, until the end of the year. There will certainly be some deals out there. I’m familiar with CarGurus and that is a great tool. I’d like to avoid financing and pay cash. I know the dealers make a lot of money and like you to finance through them to get the deal.

I didn’t know the 1.3 had more torque. That’s good to know. Thank you!

Don't tell them you are cash until you have a final deal. But you probably know that.

just as @Redfour5 and @Dgr401 said! great input :)

my only issue with cargurus was the info put on the listing I discovered was from the dealership/advertiser. In our case there was some fibbing going on with regards to the vehicle’s history not relinquished until signing the documents, with the finger pointed at cargurus... uh huh, yea right.

However- run a carfax, know a good place to take the jeep for prebuy or service and/or know what you’re doing and you should be just fine! this forum is the renegade encyclopedia and there are some superstar players here that will steer you right!
