Well it was a nice day and I had some down time. So I did the Pinch seam mod. Was not bad. Introduced myself to an Angle grinder. That's an interesting piece of hardware. Cuts through metal like a hot knife through butter. My local 4x4 shop wanted gobs on $$ to do it.. Thinks he's gods gift to the offroad world. LOL. And to be honest it didn't look that bad judging from the wayalife write up.. Turns out they were right. Took me about 2hrs. and I'm all thumbs. Taking breaks phone calls etc etc. . Just did the wayalife one not the RJ Youtube one where they cut up the whole seam all the way up. Here are some picks . Not as pretty as Wayalife's job but it gets the job done.
I’m afraid I wasn’t so lucky.. I’ll need to hit another round with the angle grinder. ran through 2 extended batteries on my first attempt too. I took it all the way up the seam and made a huge difference but sadly it needs about a half of an inch more near the forward rockrail mount for any turn more than half a steering wheels rotation. it’s the only option for me at this point. 245/70 R17 falken wildpeak at3 & 1.5” wheel spacers on stock trailhawk rims.
I think 245/65 R17’s would be the real ticket. just wanted to gain that extra bit of road height out of em. no pain, no gain I suppose
Thanks All.. indovinavi, Shoot that's what I meant by "245's here Come" 245 65 17's. the 245 70 would be an awesome selection but that's an inch bigger tire. I'm hoping the 245 65's fit. Heck even the 225 65 ko 2's I have on there now rubbed slightly before the mod. crossing fingers.
Mrsig, sorry I missed your question.. Yes lift and yes spacers. 3/4 inch spacers. 2" ATP "hockey Puck" spacer lift.
What about 235/70r17's? I still haven't pulled the trigger yet on tires until I get my bumpers installed. I'll save a few bucks on the 235's, wasn't sure if the extra width but tid shorter 245's are better.
I will say.. with determination and the right tools, a little precision trimming in the trouble area fits the taller 245/70’s. the stance is pretty nice.
I went with 245/70's, but downsized the rims to 16" (29.5 OD on the 16's vs 30.5 OD on the 17's). After pinch weld mods with 1" spacer, got some minor rubbing on the wheel well liners only (low speed/tight turns "parking" both front and rear). Need to do more heat gunning! Working on an OBD II solution to recalibrate the speedometer and reset TPMS tire pressure thresholds. Looking at OBDLink MX+, an adapter cable and the AlfaOBD App. Will start a thread if I get it figured out.
I’ve been having trouble trying to find the speed calibrator or someone willing to do the job. only one dealership in the LA area said they could for $220 but won’t confirm the ability to convert the renegade until I show up on the date of the appointment; also stated would take half of the day. you don’t even want to hear what the technician and service rep were feeding me at my local dealership... won’t even let them give me my remaining free oil changes now
Saw a guy on YouTube do this on his Ram, click here. AlfaOBD App ($49 - Google Play) is similar to Multiecuscan and accesses the vehicle computer modules through a bluetooth OBD II dongle (OBDLink MX+ $80 Amazon - Android+iOS) to make adjustments. Needs a Grey A6 adapter cable ($25 - Ebay) to access the 2nd high-speed CAN bus. You will also need a PIN code for your vehicle (Requires your VIN) from the dealer. ($155 Total) From AlfaOBD... 1. Tire size programming is supported, see Car configuration change -> Tire Circumference procedure for the BCM. 2. You definitely need it to run the proxy alignment. The alignment is needed after the tire size adjustment. 3. Update of pressure thresholds for the TPMS is supported, see Update Pressure Thresholds procedure available for the RFH. App can do a lot of other cool things... Keep your fog lights on with high beams, turn off seat belt chime, program for LED lights. Alexey is checking to see if it can adjust fuel and timing maps! Multiecuscan list for the 1.4L Renegade below... They don't list the 2.4 Multiair, but it has the same modules. The free OBDLink app can also display gauges on your phone/tablet from the PCM... AFR, Boost, Timing, Intake Temp, etc.
well, it’s going to be a little off. probably not by too much. check out your phone app and cross reference speeds. mine is off at least 7 mph at highway speeds
