I went from a broken front bumper, due to a collision, to this in lieu of the plastic. It's f#ck you degrees out, so I have to give it a couple days before I can mount my front license adapter. I am bereft of a garage.
Yes, I like the overall change it look it makes. One of my friends joked that I'm trying to turn it into an Army HMMWV. I can feel the difference in the road bite with the extra 120 lbs. on his nose. I'm not adverse to it, but I may prioritize heftier shocks before plotting on the matching rear bumper now. I'm still mulling it over.
Alright Mrsig, I have a question for you. I'm hunting my winch options, but I'm not certain about the available space I have to work within on the Radius. What did you pick up as your winch? I figure if nothing else I can use known viable dimensions as help defining my parameters.
That sounds like quite an extra load to put on the absolute forward end of the vehicle. Is the Avid Radius bumper 120 pounds more than the removed stock Renegade parts, or is it 120 pounds on its own, minus the parts that came off? Despite the Avid bumper's good looks and functional advantages, the Renegade hardly needs more weight over the front axle, especially hung way out in front. Thanks in advance for your response.
It does replace a few things. The aluminum impact bar, the radiator support, the front lower bumper cover and all it's incorporated parts. I am absolutely not a mechanic, but I would guess you're swapping somewhere in the neighborhood of 12-15 pounds of plastic and aluminum for steel. You can feel a minute difference in the steering force required. That said, as the Renny defaults to front wheel drive until four wheel is active, it bites into the terrain much better. I'm getting better response when I hit the gas and the handling seems completely the same. I'm waiting to kill this tank to assess how it's impacting my mileage. If you wanted more weight management, you could eliminate the skid plate. Although if the weight concerns you, maybe see if the contour is better in that respect? I want to say I saw something about an "Elite" version of their bumpers that may incorporate aluminum in the design. I would tear on the web site to look. Also, don't forget if you intend to install a winch, as I'm looking to, you have to factor in another 60-80 pounds for that. Hope I helped at least slightly.
Annnd I finally got the well liners trimmed down and reinstalled thanks in part to viewing a previous post here from Australia I believe? So the fit and finish of the front bumper job (minus winch) is shown below... or above... it's with this somewhere.
As additional follow up, I have run through a tank a gas to assess the numbers. It's not a precise math heavy calculation but I'm only ~1mpg lower with the added weight and altered balance of weight from the Avid bumper. The next thing I'm watching is how it affects my brake wear. I'm anticipating that to be increased to some degree and bias to more front brake wear. When I figure it out I'll let everyone know.
Does anyone know if this will fit on a 2017 Altitude with a Valkyrie Front Motor/Transmission Skid Plate?
I have the Avid Radius on my '15 TH with the Warn VR-8 winch. Does anyone have a work around for accessing the clutch lever on the winch?
WOW, good question. I just ordered the AVID RADIUS PreRunner Front Bumper and the recommended Warn VR-8 winch. I didn’t even consider that there wasn’t a way to access the drum release… …I’ll let you know if I an answer.
im getting ready to put the RADIUS bumper on my '19 TH. does it come with a templet for the bumper skin cut or do you have to measure the cut out yourself?
Yes, no... There is a picture that has a red line drawn on it to show you where to cut. I cut mine so that the line went down just a little bit from front to rear so that I could fine tune (trim a little bit at a time) and get the gap spacing that I was looking for. I would rather trim a little a few time than cut too much the first time and have a huge gap that you can't put back (take your time and don't rush). It comes with a good set of instructions.
Awesome thank you for the info. Its my daily and didn't want to bite off more than I could chew for a days work.
