I am looking at the Avid Radius Expedition. How difficult would relocating the back-up camera be? http://www.avidessentials.com/produ...h-tire-carrier-tow-hitch-and-recovery-points/
I've been wondering this as well. Does anyone have any experience doing this and where did you move it to?
I do not see this being easy. The factory setup would be very hard to work with. Unfortunately, factory cameras do not use standard video connectors to plug in any old camera. They wire directly to the harness for the stereo. So you can't just buy a longer cable and move the camera. If you look at the back of your stereo, there is no composite connector to hook up an after market camera either. The "easiest" way would be to install an after market stereo with a standard composite "video in" connector and then get a basic rear view camera and mount it where you want. Other wise, you would need to splice into the existing wires. But even then, the camera is molded into the plastic for the license plate lights. You would need to hack that up to get it to go somewhere else. Final idea. Duct tape a periscope to the lift gate. That should clear the tire no problem.
the video signal is 2 wires, plus power and ground. cut and solder on an rca. then use any aftermarke camera
I know AVID has been working on this, I have been in contact (pestering) with them on it's availability. The only thing I can think of that is going to work will be something like the JK/JL setup where it mounts to the swing arm in the center of the spare tire, along with a plate mount. This is how I plan to do it if the relocation kit isn't available at the time of the release of the rear bumper.
Did they say if the camera kit is included with the bumper or will it cost extra? Another option may be a dash cam. Pyle makes one with a rear view camera. You can wire it to come on automatically with the reverse lights.
I can only assume it will be included. It's listed as optional on the product page but it should be included as the rear tire carrier will completely block the camera, licence plate, and licence plate lights. Visible rear plates and plate lights are a requirement for every state. I know with the Radius Front Bumper the optional stuff was included. Time will tell.
I was told by a rep that both a camera kit and a license plate relocation kit were included with this bumper, didn't say when those kits would be available though.
I looked at the page on my phone and didn't scroll through. Now I know its what I am looking for. Thanks all.
Where is the license plate and camera going to be mounted to? Is there a picture we can see of how it will look?
I would like to be on the list for the rear bumper and spare tire carrier. Does this include a hitch? Who should I contact to get on the list? Thank you.
