Just curious if any of the Phoenix area members would be interested in doing a trail run soon. I want to play in my Trailhawk a bit more. I've done Montana Mountain already and driven it out to the trailhead for Reavis Ranch/ Reavis Falls for a backpacking trip. I'm open to suggestions on where to go and possibly meet up.

I wouldn't mind. I'm in gilbert. Just need to know when and where cause I'm still new at my job so taking time wouldn't be possible. I was actually just up in Sedona yesterday. Was gonna try the only jeep badge of honor trail (schnebly hill) but it's shut down due to construction so I played around on the broken arrow trail that's not too far from it.

I'm free most weekends so i am flexible on when, I've been wanting to do Schnebly too but heard it was closed right now. Montana Mountain isn't too hard but definitely puts the little toaster to work in spots.

Yeah according to the sign it's down until august 7th which is Monday I believe. And it was the same with broken arrow not too too difficult but some spots put it to the test and one spot I had to go around cause there was no chance it was going up. I tried and it scraped and wasn't gonna risk getting up and not getting down haha.

Heh. We'd been preparing to do a nice leisurely break-in on Bulldog Canyon when my wife came down with a serious case of pregnant. It's more a sight-seeing trip than a heavy 4x4 excursion. Hopefully in a couple of months when our newborn is old enough to either come along or else to stay with relatives we'll be better able to do some day-trip trails.

Makes sense... When I did Montana Mountain there was trash in some of the camping areas

Well, I got a permit for Bulldog, had it within a half of requesting it. Might go through there this weekend just to check it out.

I also just applied for it I will let you know when/of I get it and if I'll be able to make it this weekend (if you'd like company). I'm applying for a new job so not sure when they'll want me to start or the hours. I'll try to keep you updated as much as possible.

Only suggestion from when we had considered going months ago, check the weather before you go and possibly call the forest service office to make sure it's open. Apparently some areas are prone to flash-flood and if the path gets too bad they might close it. Wouldn't want to waste a trip.

That is true. But also it's only 30 min from my apartment so it wouldn't be too bad if it was closed. Just means more of a push to try other areas.

Weather is calling for thunderstorms Saturday and rain on Sunday in Tonto... might not be a good weekend to run Bulldog. If it changes I might still go but as it stands it might not happen.

Seems like a pretty mild trail. LETS GO PLAY IN THE MUD haha. Jk jk we don't need to be getting stuck. Although mud sounds like fun. That's one thing I haven't done.

Part of what motivated us getting the Trailhawk was a geology tour we did of central and northern AZ, we'd borrowed my folks' 99 Tracker for the trip in May several years ago and a freak storm hit and dumped rain and snow on us. We made it despite the forest service roads turning into shallow creeks and Dad having put street tires on the Tracker since he didn't expect it to do any more heavy offroading, but it was slip-and-slide for several miles of hilly terrain without cell service. The other vehicle was driven by someone with no 4x4 experience whatsoever and he got it stuck in a ditch, I had to get it out for him.

So while playing in the mud can be fun I'll refrain from doing it in most cases if I can.

I only wanna play in light mud just to get it dirty and have fun. I won't go in anything that's deep or too crazy. How else am I gotta test the trail hawk and my new tires.

    Can't argue with that logic.

I guess the real question now is day and time... And do we go from User Pass to Apache Trail or Start on Bush Highway?
