    Hi everyone,

Some of you may have see the pictures I posted of my Grab handles that I wrapped in Red and Black Paracord. Yes, they look alright, but not quite what I wanted, so here is a write-up on how to replace the stock grab handles with custom paracord grab handles.

    You will need:
    1) A Paracord Handle.
I made my own using a Black King Cobra braid, and the weaving red down the sides.
    2) 2 bolts 10-24, 1 1/2in long 2 nuts and 2 washers

Before: Stock grab handle wrapped in red/blk paracord:

    1. To remove the grab handle, Rotate the handle down to expose the bracket cover. Start by prying the cap up with a small flat head screwdriver.
Do the same to the other side

Grab the Bracket cover, and pull, this will release the tabs that hold the bracket into the mounting point.
Do the same to the other side and remove the handle

To remove the handle portion from the mounting bracket, push out the retaining pin (I used a Hex key)
One of the brackets has a spring loaded into it , This keeps the handle folded up when not in use.

Keep the pins, spring and handles should you decide to go back to the stock handles. It is a PAIN to reinstall the spring in the mounting bracket, but it is possible.

Remove the round guide block from one of the mounting brackets.

Feed a bolt through the holes of the mounting bracket, and through the end of the Paracord Handle.
I made mine to have dual eyelets, so I positioned one in the center of the bracket as seen below:
Then Place the other eyelet over the end of the bolt, and put on a washer, and a nut. Tighten the nut down to secure the paracord handle eyelet

Do the same to the other bracket,a nd you should have something that looks like this:

    Reinstalling the Grab handle:
Position the bracket into the slot, and push it in.

Do the same to the other side, and the Push the caps in firmly to engage the clips.

    Finished Product:

Your image links seem to be broken, definitely interested in trying this though! Thanks for the write up, hopefully the pics come back up!

I really like this, a neat, cheap modification that anyone could do, but most wouldn't.

    Couple of questions.

Was there a specific reason you put one loop in the middle and the other loop by the nut?

Have you considered a piece of brass or copper tubing around the bolt so the threads don't eat into the paracord?

The reason I placed them in the middle and on the outside is because I made the handles a little longer than needed. So doing this stretches them out a bit. Otherwise, I would have just placed the ends in the center.

Secondly, yes, I am planning on covering the threads, or changing out the bolts to ones that are not all-thread

Works great now! Definitely loving the setup! I made Paracord grab handles that attach to the headrests, this will be my next project for sure :)

I plan on doing the headrest handles as well, will probably do a write-up for it as well, and include how to remove the headrests for easy attachment.

Just make sure you do it the easy way. I saw someone else post a fairly complicated way to get the headrests off, but there's a small and hard to see black square button that will release it. It's flush with the plastic. Press that in while pressing in the main button and it will slide right off with no need to disassemble anything.

As a side note, I'm a little upset that Jeep designed it that way. People *should* carry a glass breaker tool in the car, but if someone is stuck without one and needs to break the glass in an emergency situation, the headrest rods make a good alternative. Can't really use them that way since they're a pain to get off, though. I'm thinking about JB welding a button to the square flush button to make them easier to remove, but I'm not sure if there's enough surface area to get a good bond.
