2016 Renegade Trail hawk. meticulously maintained. 48,000 miles. 8,000 miles out of warranty. service engine light comes on driving home. park the car to avoid any damage by driving until it can go in. scan codes, bad thermostat. $670.00 to replace!!!!!!!!! Absolutely ridiculous. less than 50,000 miles and that much money for a service that isn't maintenance. shame on Jeep for this vehicle. I tried so hard to get over the issues with this car. I've had nothing but problems. ridiculously disappointed..... #jeepcares yeah ok.
T-stat replacement used to be very easy on most vehicles.....not on the renegade? Tried getting a price from an Indy shop?
used to be easy are the key words. the parts themselves are almost $300. the vehicle shouldn't have these issues at less than 50,000 miles
Seems to be a common issue in our renegades. The dealership even said so. Even though the error code was present, the jeep was still maintaining safe water temperature. The worst part, even though the jeep was still running fine, you can’t remote start or activate 4x4 when there’s an error code present. So if I was stuck in any of this Chicago snow, I had to go disconnect my battery to reset the code just get my 4x4 on. My extended warranty covered it, thankfully only costing me the $100 deductible.
I wouldn't be without warranty on any newer vehicle these days. My '08 3.0 GC had $13,850 of work done to it a few hundred kms after the factory warranty was over.....all covered!
My advice to anyone who has a vehicle out of warranty is "never take it to a dealership." A quick search on Rockauto.com found the part number but was out of stock. I found the part on advance auto parts for $39.99. Never ever (ever) trust what the parts people at a dealership say about price.
unfortunately my garage is out of order being rebuilt and all of my tools are in storage.... this will be the last time it goes to the dealer unless it's powertrain related
I just got the P0128 thermostat code. Wondering if I should try replacing the temp sensor first. Watched YT video on thermo replacement. A bit involved, but doable. Has anyone done this repair?
Have you noticed the warm up time being longer? P0128 is for taking too long to warm up, and usually means an open thermostat, But if your Renegade is getting up to temperature in the normal time, and staying at normal operating temp, then trying the sensor is probably worth while...
