Hey guys and girls, In the last few days I am experiencing a "banging" sound coming under the floor after bumps or road imperfections. It sounds like the exhaust hitting something and I can also feel it in my feet through the floor. I looked under the car and the exhaust seems to be fine but I believe that the rubber bands holding the exhaust have become soft. Also a large part of the exhaust has no support. Anyone with the same problem? Is my assumption correct?
Thank for the reply. I will check tomorrow but I don't believe it comes from the sway bar. I will keep you posted.
It may not be, I only say this because I had a similar sound and the bottom nut on one of my sway bar links was about a half turn loose. After tightening the sound went away.
I checked the sway bar links and all seem torqued to spec. Also after some observation I came to the conclusion that the noise only happens when the car is "hot". I believe that the rubber mounts become spongie with heat and the exhaust hits the crossmember.
A way you can check that is get it hot and get a good pair of gloves and see if you can recreate the sound by moving the exhaust around.
Interesting you say it's a heat issue. I think I have experienced the knocking sound you are describing but it only happens on cold days during winter when the car is still warming up...
I tried that and I wasn't able to do it. At least I didn't hear it from outside the car. I will get a friend do that and listen from the inside
