Hey I'm getting the Avid 1.4 front radius bumper and was wondering what size winch would be appropriate for the renegade? Would a 5k or 6k be appropriate or is an 8k or 9k the better bet? Thanks, RangerDanger
The radius bumper is pre-drilled for the "larger" winches. So you would be needing the 8-12k winches if you want it to bolt right up. The contour bumper was designed for the smaller compact winches. I am actually using the bracket for the contour bumper behind my factory bumper with a 5k winch attached. I'm hoping to keep my weight down so the 5k should be fine. If you plan on adding a lot of accessories, the larger winches will be more appropriate.
The Renegade Trailhawk is 3,532 lb, the minimum capacity of winch should be 1.5 x 3,532=5,298 lb. I use a 6k winch on my Renegade, which is only 14kg fully loaded with wires and synthetic rope. I think it's necessary to save weight of Renegade.
I put a smittybiuld x20 comp 10,ooolb on my radius bumper. It was a very tight fit but she looks and preforms amazing!!
Yes the winch plate is part of the radius bumper. Super clean install, very tight fit, just about perfect if you ask me.
I like your winch setup and am looking to do something similar with a trailhawk but want to keep the tow hooks. Do you know if the bracket for the contour bumper is compatible with the tow hooks? I notice that they delete the tow hooks when you use their bumper but I'm not sure if that is due to the bumper or that they are reusing the mount points.
I'm not sure about the tow hooks on the trail hawk, but the radius bumper does use all the available mount points behind the bumper cover.
Question: Do you have an easy way to perform maintenance on the winch? I've never used a hidden unit before.
