I got some Rocky Road super sliders and I can't drill through the pinch seam. Took me all afternoon to drill 2 holes. I obviously don't know what I'm doing. What speed should I put my drill at? I'm using cutting oil. I'm using cobalt drill bits after I used hss bits, and those crapped out on me very quickly. I tried pilot holes, broke 3 bits. Anybody have any suggestions...please. I'm gonna get a bit sharpener and try that.
You wore out the bit... When I did mine, the one side took over an hour and I had 3 holes drilled. I went to the other side and was done in a half hour with the new bit. I came back and got another hole done on the first side but couldn't finish the last one... They are a major pain to say the least. I took it to the shop to get the last hole drilled, they went through 2 more bits.
I'm dealing with the same issue. I bought multiple bits and am gonna try to go slow and hopefully be done by the end of whatever day I decide to try it again. Let us know if you make it and how.
From what I understand, cobalt bits, plenty of cooling fluid and s-l-o-w speed...used to drill 1/4" SS at work that way and you'd be surprised how well slow speed works...drilling thru welds are a &!tch!!
I found the solution. Harbor Freight has a 7 pack of 1/4 inch titanium bits for $6. I've used 2 packs for 10 holes. Harbor Freight saves the day again. Go slow and apply constant pressure. I still have 2 holes on each side i cant get. I'll just take it to my buddy's and have him put a couple if spot welds at the other spots. Or I just might use some jb weld.
I tried cobalt and cutting oil. Didn't work I spent twice as much on name brand bits and drilled 2 holes. Spent 1/2 as much at Harbor Freight and drilled 8 holes.
All right, so I got 5 holes drilled on both sides. I got stuck in the same spot on both sides. The front hole and 3rd from the back. I'm gonna spot weld those 2 sites. My concern with these sliders is the well nuts. Don't know how well they will hold up. They pass the initial jump on the slider test but over time I think the weight of the slider will win over the rubber well nut.
It's kinda hard getting in and out with the super sliders, kinda wish i had just purchased the standard sliders. Oh well i suppose I'll get used to it. Kids can use it as a step.
I've bumped and bang them pretty good, they hold up. I'm sure my super slider saved me some body damage I would have got with the regular sliders. That little bit extra away from the body coming off a rock.
