I don't have a lift on mine either. I was just about to get these put on at Wal-Mart when they called and told me they were too big and would hit the suspension if they put them on. I'm wondering if they were just covering their butts or if I should just get them put on somewhere else. I already have the 1.5" lift kit to go on next week.
I'm in the same situation as you; I've only had my renny for about 6 weeks and there's 3700 miles on it already. I'm also interested in the 225/70/17 KO2's but share your same concerns regarding the heavier tire. I don't see a reply to your concerns on this thread, have you found any additional information elsewhere regarding MPG and wear/tear caused from the heavier tire? Seeing conflicting information about the effects on MPG in this thread is concerning. Can anyone confirm this on the 2.4L engine?
The weight of the KO2s was definitely something that I was concerned with and I asked the guys at the tire shop about it because I was having a hard time finding that info online. My Latitude (1.4L) came with 215/65/R16's which came in at just about 20 pounds each and the KO2s in 225/70/R16 were right at 40 pounds. I was not crazy about doubling the weight so I went with the Hankook Dynapro AT'Ms (approx. 30 pounds per tire). Because of the upsizing, my speedometer is now anywhere from 2 to 4 MPH slower so I think the on-board MPG is no longer accurate. It shows about a 1-2 MPG drop, but I haven't had a chance to actually test it with a GPS. I keep telling myself I will track it after my next fill up, but always forget. I also use it as my daily driver, and while there is definitely an increase in road noise (to be expected), I have not really noticed any change to the overall ride / comfort.
The weight is not double of the original tire although it is 8-10 pounds heavier per setup. I have the ko2s on my trailhawk. I recommend going with something else. They look nice and perform well but the extra rolling mass with the 9 speed is a bad setup. Plenty of power but the software is crap and makes the transmission bog when under load. I recommend you look up the specs on the tires you have on your renegade and stay pretty close to that weight. The lift should not affect the rolling mass but add some wind resistance due to higher center of gravity. If you do spacers that will affect the rolling mass as well bc you are pushing the weight out further than it was designed. I get 18-20 on the highway with lift spacers ko2s and a cargo basket. 13-15 on short commutes. Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
On the Trailhawk it is not double the weight, but the Latitude came with some pretty worthless passenger car tires.
KO2s are 39lbs. Factory shityears are 28lbs. If you're concerned about too much weight, don't go with a D load tire. The BFG is perfect for the driver looking for maximum off-road ability with ok road manners. Yokohama is a good alternative, give great on road performance and a decent more aggressive look, and some good performance off highway. H rated makes the ride more comfortable than the stock options as well. They are 31lbs for the ATS and 30lbs for the GO15
Did you do any trails out there? How'd it go in the Renegade? Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
I didnt do anything crazy, but i did do a few trails by the hot springs and the Rio! my trip was mainly a backpacking trip and we managed to fit 4 big backpacks in the back plus a cooler
I think I dropped 2 mpg But I don't get stuck anymore. I have 235/65/17" Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
Check your size, BFG does not make the KO2 in that size. 225/65/17 and 245/65/17 are the 2 17" that are (possibly) usable
Yes you're right I don't know why I kept saying 235 thank you for correcting me! Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
Just finished installing 17" rims and bf Goodrich tires in my 75th Anniversary model.. I am using 1" spacers from Supreme Suspensions. Loving the much more aggressive look. Tires are 225/65/17
Bfg KO2’s with an ATP 2 inch Lift ! Definitely worth it Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
