anyone else having this issue? noticed it yesterday in the middle of a long road trip and not sure what to do about it. i took a short video so you can see whats happening. http://sendvid.com/azbuqo1q
I would replace that as soon as you can. Your fins on your radiator are getting bent/folded over where the fan hits. Same thing happened to me on my supercharged Miata. A belt broke under tension, hit the fan and broke the shroud mount. Had nice swirl marks where the fins bent.
I'm going to a Jeep dealership tomorrow. Hopefully warranty will cover it, as I literally just made my first car payment and really dont want to dump a ton of money into repairs. Ugh.
Mine was doing the same 2 weeks ago, I took it back to the dealer and they replaced it under warranty. Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
The same thing just happened to mine. I noticed a nasty sound under the hood Saturday night. Popped the hood and saw the fan shaking like crazy. I couldn't find any loose screws. So killed the engine and spun the fan and could tell the bearings were going out. Then Tuesday night the service light came on. Checked the fan and it was completely locked up. Now we're waiting to find out how long its gonna to take to get the part because the service guy said its on national backorder.
took two weeks for mine to come in. Thankfully it never fully locked up on me. Really sucks your did.
Hi ATXRenny, Sorry to hear about this! If you'd like to PM our page with your VIN and dealership's name I'd be happy to look into this further for you. Andrea Jeep Social Care Specialist
Just had the same thing happen. For a few days Ive heard a noise from the front of my vehicle as I was shutting the vehicle off. Then as I idled at red lights I could hear it too - but it didn't happen every time I was idling or every time I shut the vehicle off. Last night I went out with a friend and as I was heading home it became increasing worse. Took it in this morning and was told it was the cooling fan and that the part is in back order with no ETA. Told I could be without my Jeep anywhere from 3 weeks or longer. As I was driving it to the dealership this morning it got so bad it honestly scared me and I'm not a girl that scares easily. They said I was lucky to have gotten it in when I did - which was a little alarming but hopefully once resolved everything will be good to go. Now the waiting game begins.
Hi sas7827, Were you able to get a rental vehicle through your dealership? You're welcome to send us a private message with your VIN, and we can also check on the back order status. Kori Jeep Social Care Specialist
I have had the same issue as well. There was a noise that my husband heard Thursday 8/10, a loud tapping. Today, the noise wasn't quite as bad, but I drive over an hour to work on mostly interstate. When I got to my work's parking garage, it was smoking and smelled like burning plastic. The odor was overwhelming. I took it to the closest mechanic. Sure enough, it was the damn fan. Since it's so damn hot, I can't really wait 3 or more weeks (one local dealerships stated it's been 6 months for their back order). So I'm getting this fixed with aftermarket items and hoping it works. I believe I am just outside of my warranty as well. Go figure. X|
Mine happened last Wednesday. I'm a few thousand miles out of warranty. I've called Jeep customer care daily every day & was promised a 1-2 day callback & it didn't happen. I'm being bounced from person to person daily - all saying the same rehearsed robotic things. I did file complaint with NHTSA & they are researching why no recall yet. Dealer offered no loaner & my Jeep meanwhile is sitting @ dealer until Oct. They say it's catastrophic backorder & defective cooling fan. How on earth can 3500 renegades need this part across the country & Jeep not offer loaners? Yet keep our cars for months? Also the service manager @ dealer seems to be AWOL. As well as owner of dealership. NHTSA said they will mail paperwork to me after researching. Mine also smoked & smelled like burning plastic. Engine light came on. Dealer said not safe to drive. Also - everyone please report to NHTSA. They said their only way of knowing is when people call in. Then they might can force recall.
Same boat. Waiting on my second replacement fan in less than a year. 800 miles out bumper to bumper warranty, luckily the new broken fan is still under warranty. FCA has given an unknown ETA for a replacement. Complaint filed with NHTSA.
