Hey everyone I'm Andrew and new owner of a '16 Renegade sport with 1.4L 6spd named Raphael. Just starting a thread here for the 1.4L 6spd people out there and seeing what comments and concerns people have. I traded in a '15 Ford Fiesta ST for my Renegade and it was a good choice due to I need a 4x4 for the winters here in North Dakota. I went with the Sport because it was in a my price range and I like having a turbo manual vehicle. But after doing my research looks like I am going to invest some time and $$$ to get this thing to where it will be a decent 4x4 lol. Just looking for other peoples input on this subject.
I got about 1600 miles on mine now and avg 25mpg. That is a mix of city driving and hwy normally on the hwy I'm doing 80mph. Has anyone thought about putting a hitch on a 1.6 6spd? I know in the manual JEEP don't recommend it but it would be for a small 5ftx8ft trailer to haul small building materials and a motorcycle.
Today I ordered a drawtite hitch that should fit perfectly. I'm only going to use it for a bike rack though so I don't know what it's capable of.
Jeep hitch/receiver within the bumper. what you need. Receiver(Hitch) PN# 82214682 $289.00 TrailHawk Rear Fascia ( bumper) PN 5VX23LXHAA ~ $241.00 Bezel PN 5VX02LXHAA ~ $75.00 Wiring harness PN? ( from Ready Renegade) ~$88.00 Look up JK4Life "Mopar Trailer Hitch Install" for more info. Remember some differences between TrialHwak and non TrailHawk models. . Need to ensure you use all 6 mounting bolts to attach the receiver. Some left the factor with not all 6 bolts had a recall. You only need the wire harness if you intend to run lights on something. For bike rack, etc not necessary. Once you have this you can add TrailHawk Red tow hook at the rear also. Dont have a FCA PN for Red TrailHawk hook. I installed my Receiver to tow my trailer/motorcycle . Will send pics. But yea the tow capacity of 1.4 / 6spd is very limited. Proceed with caution.
I was going to get the hitch from Renegade ready. I'm not going to be pulling anything heavie then a motorcycle on a single axle trailer. I dont get why JEEP don't want you towing with the 1.4 6spd? The 1.4 and the 2.4 make about the same torque so the transmissions should be able to pull about the same payload.
The limiting factor for tow capacity is usually clutch and brakes. ( it has yet to be confirmed but I believe the brake rotors of TH is larger than 1.4l 6 spd) But I don't know why FCA dose not rate the 1.4/6spd for towing. Also there is the MySky, can not get receiver/hitch with MySky option from Factory ( 2.4L or 1.4L). Not sure if is just a sales/option combination or if there is s real reason ( Body/Frame/ Structure.)
I think a lot of it is just for sales. You walk in and talk to a salesman and say you want to tow things they will try to sell you the more expensive jeep model. For example if you order a Sport model it cost around $200 to get the roof racks installed. But if you buy a Sport and want to install the racks they charge you around $800 just for the racks.
I love my 2015 6-speed turbo. 6400 miles and getting 27 mpg. Upgraded stereo and put in Husky mats all around. Recently put on the Thule Aeroblade crossbars I bought from the dealer. I received a 15% discount card for anything Mopar at dealer so it was the best deal. Getting seat covers soon. Tires will be next. Looking at 225/70/r16 KO2's because everywhere I have read says they will fit with no lift or spacers (no rubbing). Then it will be getting the spare tire on a roof rack. After that, maybe Madness lift and springs, Madness power pack 1 and the air filter. Beyond that....maybe winch and bull bar. I just need to get the $$$$$'s
I have the "itch" of putting a rack basket on mine and e full size spare on top, I think it will look good. I am looking for aftermarket from Tyger, I think the shape compliments the Renegade.
I like the 1.4T as well, got the Granite color.. good for snow but not capable in rock climbing just like my TJs.
Got mine in blue. Use it as my commuter and to pick up supplies for my deli. Needed the 4x4 to get me through snow storms and other sorts of foul weather. No current plans to go offroading. Honestly, it is perfect for what i need. Getting about 30mpg combined. Fun driving a manual again too.
FWD 6spd 1.4T here. i am not a fan of the lumpy power delivery, did some reading, the dodge dart guys have been dealing with it for a long time too. Anyone here done a piggyback for the ECU yet?
I know exactly what you mean about the "lumpy power delivery." It's almost like the computer is trying to out think the turbo and the turbo is very unhappy about that. I plan on doing a piggy back ECU this spring. Everything I've seen indicates that it will smooth out that power curve.
With my Renegade (manual) , putting in a k&n filter and a GFB DV+ and it really helped smooth the power delivery. First gear is still fairly "lumpy" until the turbo spools up, but rowing through the rest of the gears is much smoother than before. I'm sure a piggy back ecu will help, but most turbo 4's are peaky by nature. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using ToasterJeep mobile app
I went to autozone and got a spectre filter and wrap, then i got a couple of elbows and a coupler all 3", some Y conectors little kit box an couple sizes a1 ft hoses 7/32, 3/8 , had some clamps at home, and tried to make my own intake. Myidea was to actually build a CAI but short ram looked better and safer from the elements. After got done, i only kept a 60°elbow and the filter and returned all the stuff back. It cost me about 58$ . And its pretty Awesome woosh sound and added torque! Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
I admit its not very professional but it works very well and i can put back the stock box anytime if would be necessary Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk
Maybe try removing the OEM air box and putting the filter down in the fender? Cool idea though. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using ToasterJeep mobile app
