Hey, indovinavi, can you let me know what email you sent it to? Also did you happen to take a picture prior to modifying the bumper bracket? I haven't received an email back and I want to know what I'm getting into before I jump in, if at all possible. Thanks!
email I have is anthony@avidessentials.com and presume you haven’t heard back from them as he claims they had only one in stock and now it’s in my living room I haven’t gotten to anything as of yet. here’s a picture of the contour support bar and the areas I plan to cut off of it- more probably once I’ve got the front end apart and winch mounted to it. I’m trying to figure out if I can keep the original trailhawk hooks in conjunction with this setup. @persquank was right, this is constructed of aluminum and might not support as much stress as the stock steel one. think while I get this one mounted in, I’ll take the stock impact bar over to a buddy to weld in a horizontal piece for mounting the winch to. -Mike
Ahh, interesting. I would be hard pressed to find out that the bumper bracket for the AVID bumper is aluminum. It is supposed to hold a winch and a bumper with recovery points. The crashbar for the Trailhawk is steel, but all other models are aluminum. That is what I believe he is referring to. I did not realize you were just looking for a winch bracket. Could you not just mount one on the trailhawk bumper? I did not email that particular email, so I will do that with the expectation that I won't be seeing a bumper bracket in the near future.
I’m after making a hidden winch as the OP persquank did, and similar to the fellows at mopar did with their comanche concept truck. I posted it above on the previous page of this thread. I’m no scientist but the whole bracket weighs in around 37 lbs and if it were 1/8th in steel I think it would be heavier.
The bumper that you are mounting a winch to needs to be strong enough to support the vehicles weight. In some cases, depending the depth in which you are stuck, that bumper (winch tray) needs to support 3 times the weight of the loaded vehicle. Or, it is going to fail. The AVID front bumper and winch tray's are made of steel. Reference: AVID’s RADIUS PreRunner series. - High Strength Steel Construction: heavy duty 1/4″ and 3/16″ inner structure and winch tray construction. ** (Please see RADIUS Elite series for optional 3/16″ inch Aluminum construction).
it’s definitely not the avid radius bumper support bar.. the recovery points are in a different location
I stand corrected.. It didn’t seem logical that they would make it out of aluminum. figured it should weigh more. Anthony has confirmed your response Ed! I do believe it is different from the radius support bracket though
Got some new coil packs to replace the Madness ones. Ordered from Eurocompulsion and got two bonus lollipops. Here is the before and after: These are the Alfe Rameo 4c coil packs: Seems to be working out pretty good so far.
I ordered their 1.4 Turbo Cold Air Intake, AWESOME product, and it came with the bonus lollipops also... lol
I finally got to ordering the warn vr8 winch. wife was not supportive of the synthetic price so I’ll have to add that line down the road once I get used to this thing. having some difficulty getting a bracket for relocating the control solenoid tho. avid wants $150-175. told them I didn’t need any of the wiring.. keep you all posted EDIT- Posted it over in Renegade Modified Tech: https://toasterjeep.com/index.php?threads/hidden-winch-trailhawk-‘17.3221/
Got 88888 miles last month. Not much else has happened in a while. 88888 by persquank posted Jun 11, 2020 at 4:08 PM
I was able to flat tow an old jeep willys around the block. The owner says he would take it camping but it doesn't drive great on the street. The Renegade did just fine pulling it around.
