So my renegade trailhawk is a week old and have had some serious issues. My power seat stopped working today and I had to justo start my grand Cherokee with the Renegade all of A sudden now I have a bunch of lights not working but they're working I'm getting a bunch of error messages and codes. I'm going to the dealer Monday but I thought that I saw on here that some one posted that they were never able to fix it. Please help I'm freaking out! This happened to me and if you look at other posts it has happened to a few others as well. In most cases the dealership will be able to do a software update and that should fix it, if not I needed to have a new module installed.
I hope that is all I've dropped so much money over the past month on the WK, and I haven't even made a payment on this thing yet. Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
If I understood you right, you started GC with battery in Renegade. Mistake. The battery in Renegade is weaker than GC battery and impact on the computer, it can also destroy it. I hope that reset of the computer will help. Try with disconnecting the battery for half an hour.
It was acting up prior to the jump to the wk I had no choice we needed a vehicle. I'm taking it to the dealer in the am. Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
I didn't know there were problems jumping different cars... I used to jump everything from BMW z's, to x5s and even a hummer 2 with my mini Maybe just cause it's a premium vehicle but I never had a problem
As my friend-mechanic told me, sudden (over)load is stress for cars electronics (computer) and is not recommended. Specialy diesel engines needs more current at start, so I avoid starting engines over smaller bateries as instaled in "jump-needed" cars. It doesn't mean any damage will be done, but I would not risk with Renegade, with all the problems and sensitivenes on electronic.
Hook up cables, run the "jumper" for awhile, and disconnect before attempting to start the "jumpee ". Basically, newer vehicles have less robust and far more complicated electrical systems. I'll bet the voltage regulator associated with the alternator got pissed off. Usually there's an inexpensive component in there designed to fail in the event the system gets stressed. Yeah and I never run a complete circuit I end it on the dead negative, I know that you can mess up the system if you complete the circuit but I was just borrowing some juice. Once it was running I disconnected from the good battery and shut everything down. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
At a car show today I spoke with a person that works at a dealership service department. I am under the impression from what he said that if the Renegade has a battery failure or other significant power issue that it wreaks havoc on the vehicle and the systems like the electric power steering that then must be dealership-recalibrated. Needless to say this is very disappointing, especially if so much as a battery replacement causes these problems.
We are all good so far. So I'm thinking what happened from things that I've read is that when I did borrow that juice from the renegade it triggered the computer making it think that the battery was dead or dying. Everything is running fine yesterday morning and I took it to the dealer to give it a checkup and the transmission update. So over all it's gonna be just fine. Has anybody else had the light errors happen to them? Mine has done this 3 times in the past 2 weeks, Alert comes up saying that both turn signals are out and so are the brake lights. The turn signals click fast inside the cabin like the bulb is out, but outside the vehicle they are working fine as are the brake lights. After a few minutes of driving the alert icon goes away on its own, and everything is normal. Will have to swing by the dealership if it keeps doing this. I should be up to date on all computer updates as I just had my oil changed about a month ago.
Hi FireHawk, Sorry to hear about this! If you decide to visit your local dealership I'd be happy to follow up with them for you if needed. Just PM our page with your VIN and let me know. Andrea Jeep Social Care Specialist
Thanks Andrea, if it happens again I will have it checked out. It hasn't happened in several days, so i'm hoping it was just a bug or something.
I'd say check your battery it might be weak. But I'm no expert yet. Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
I haven't been lucky enough to find any around me yet. I also will need to do tires first as the all seasons are completely useless. I also don't like not having rescue options, so maybe a winch bumper (no winch) with some heavy towing hooks first. Sent from my iPhone using ToasterJeep mobile app
hi firehawk. i bought new 2016 th this jan. it had 200km at delivery 2 my home. dealer ovr hour away highway. 2day went 2 do few errands . upon startup 2day my th did this. it cycles different warnings. yes turn signals click fast....so i manual turn headlamp switch on parking select an turn signal click was normal. i also had no reverse lights messag warnin.....so i put n reverse an put emergency brake on....go out and looked 2 see if back up lights r on. they were. its not safe to leave runnin car while n gear so dont do it. the emerg brake on mine held even with a bit of gas pedal press. i carful take out 2 street. about couple kilometers the warning went out. the renegade has 000356 Km. i wonder if recent rain pushed by strong wind found a weakness. im not takin 2 dealer just yet.
